It requires a very strong spirit to go beyond society and the need for love and acceptance; to enter into the realm of spiritual independence.
Those alientated from society, such as the Kurdish women we have heard about, have little choice, have few if any options, opportunities and places of refuge.
Similarly, in our own society, there is much to alienate people. This includes the perceived 'normality' of wealth, material affluence, individual success, beauty and replete sex.
Then there is the simple need to be loved and respected. I live in a community of 2,500 people. There have been at least two suicides this year already. Both of these were relationship issues.
Even in small communities like mine, where everyone knows about eachother's lives, there is so much loneliness and fragility to be seen.
