"Or it could be a few state run stuff ups with combined with a tough Liberal policy on law and order."
I suppose 173 dead in the Black Saturday tragedy, a shocking event beyond anyone's imagination if they were not directly involved, already fading in many people's memories, sadly, would be one of the "few" state run stuff ups, head 2641.
Brumby cannot be blamed for the whole death toll. However,
the disgraceful shambles at CFA Headquarters that day, with the Police Chief, the Police Minister, and the Premier not present (the last two appeared at about 8pm - the other had other priorities for the whole day - and was out to dinner that night, and with none of them having declared either a State of Emergency earlier that day when Bling Freddy could have seen the impendiong scope of this tragedy, OR to ensure that the person in charge was acting competently, was enough on its own to throw out this Government.
Predictive maps by independent experts clearly indicated that the areas where people subsequently died were coming under direct threat imminently. Yet this information was put aside, or not passed on to the relevant branched who could have issued forward warnings. These poor, ravaged towns were then sitting ducks. There were NO CFA fire trucks present in Kinglake when the fires suddenly hit at 5pm, and no warnings put up on the CFA website until the first one 5pm - when people were already deceased.
Add to this Myki scandals and cost blowouts, the arrogance of Rob Hulls and his Laborisation of the legal fraternity,
the white elephant of the de-sal unit, the North to South pipeline, etc, etc, etc, and they were really due for a fall.
Victoria, sadly and inexplicably, still voted in Labor Federally this year, with not one seat loss, despite all of the above fiascos. So the current victory HAS to be a reflection of people at last waking up to the
awfulness of the Rudd/Gillard governments, and the failings of State Labor.
There are still suicides happening in these fire ravaged towns. And hundreds still suffering dislocation, financial ruin, unemployment, loss of their livelihoods, and physcological damage. This loss of Brumby's Government has to be some sort of poetic justice on that score alone.
Lest we forget.
