Well known Perth businessman & ex-Federal Pollie (?), Terry Donnelly did. Terry runs the international charity KIN (kids in need). He signed up two orthopaedic surgeons, an anaesthetist, an accountant and a children's playground equipment maker to the KIN committee and subsequently undertook a range of activities in Somalia, including setting up a school in the remote area of Gardho and providing Braille machines along with boats in Hafun, computers for schools and wheelchairs for hospitals across northern Somalia. It was during this time in Puntland that he met up with Puntlands MBA qualified Minister of Planning; Cabdiraxmaan Faroole, (Ex-General Manager of the Somali Commercial Bank) who also has relatives living in Australia (Perth). Faroole recognised the need to get foreign investment flowing into Puntland to develop known resources and start generating income for the state. With the aid of Perth Lawyer, Anthony Black, set up Consort Private, and with the backing of the Puntland President, Cadde Muuse (Canadian educated), approached 20 odd cashed up mining companies with international exposure to run the foreign investment in Puntland's natural resources.
Range with the help of Povey, won the bid, with Povey subsequently getting the gig as CEO of Range. This story is more complex than this and I don’t know the entirety of it... but that’s the gist of it.
