trendsetter the emphasis wasn't on the mechanics of shorting, i was trying to explain how the normal held perception of ownership can be applied to short selling as well, it is not artificial/imaginary.
For all the reasons you stated regarding FMG, I could just as easy turn it around as my reasons for shorting FMG. The popular belief is that short selling manipulates/punishes company SP below fair value, that might happen but it is not the intention of the short selling concept. Short selling gives an extra tool to ensure fair value is recognised, this should be good for the share market because it ensures people are not buying at speculative levels and lose money easily.
Anyhow, all eyes to the US GDP report tonight.
