Yes its posssible but I think you may be on the wrong track there nonmo. Horse flu is usually nonfatal - a bit like human flu - although it is a major inconvenience for recreational use of horses like racing and other horse sports.
What this horse flu outbreak does show imo, is that a new outbreak of virulent interpecies animal virus of much more serious consequence such as bird flu is always on the cards, as much as we want to ignore the threat..
