Horse racing must change

Why do we handicap a beautiful horse, such as Anthony Van Dyck, with 56 kg of lead weight as punishment for its previous wins or places?

The horse was expected to carry that, plus the weight of the jockey, at full gallop over 3.2 kms on a 26° day without risk to its legs.

I bet that without that extra 56 kg Anthony Van Dyck would be alive today.

The whole concept of handicapping is flawed. Do we add lead weights to Tour de France cyclists or Olympic runners? Why can't the best horse win without this cruel practice?

The same trainer had another horse break down and be euthanised.

    Changes must be made!
