Michelle Grattan, writing in the Age a couple of days ago under the banner of 'Reality Mugs Rudd's goals' included the following comment:
"One characteristic of this government is a tendency to deny difficulties - or at least to refuse to properly acknowledge them - until they become so obvious that they have to be recognised and addressed."
With election excitement growing Rudd needs to put the NBN to bed - will he walk away from Conroy's largesse and let Telstra get on with the job, or will is he so shell-shocked from all his recent backflips that he digs his heals in? Could go either way. Telstra shareholders matter as much as taxpayers in general - zip.
