I was recently referred by specialist for a procedure. he asked are you private or public. I said what is the difference? He said a private hospital referral is done online, takes 2 minutes, where as a public hospital you need to take this form into them. The nurse said they tried the iPad, direct entry, but the nurses didn't like it? the forms they complete are then scanned into system, hardly any of it is entered into system.
So a private hospital which wants to make money, goes digital where government hospital have not.
I am very grateful to the hospital staff for what they did for me but the amount of pen and paper used was like living in the 90's.
I used to work for Government and in about 2010 we implemented a no paper claim policy, that is federal level. I am amazed that the hospital system still works on pen and paper.
Surely state and local government have to implement efficiencies so spending can go to nurses, doctors and equipment
