You are absolutely right, you can't short what you own.
But you are also looking at the tactical. Take a step back and look at who benefits from;
1. A very low share price
2. The coy going bust
I am not saying/assuming anything and am genuinely interested in your views on this as you have correctly picked the down side.
Lets start looking at the water the duck is swimming in.
