this was done to ensure that all Abrahamic religions had equal access to their respective Holy Sites.
fyi Palestine is also a democracy..... the state of Palestine is under constant attack from its occupiers (Israel) and enforced Jewish "settlements".... declared to be illegal under international law. So necessarily the people of Palestine are constantly defensive and vote for people who might be capable of mounting a reasonable defence against the aggressors (Israel).
