TraderReg – you would be funny if you weren’t so malicious in your intent to smear this industry and damage this little Australian company which is working hard to find new sources of energy and deliver it to customers who need it.

You are 100% wrong on your assumptions. Environmental investigations have found that fish deaths in Gladstone Harbour were caused by flooding and that the fish health in the harbour has improved over the past 12 months.

LNG causing “ecocide” in Gladstone harbour – I dont think so. Here is the Report of the Gladstone Harbour investigation released last month by the Qld Minister for the Environment and Heritage Protection.

Report of Gladstone Harbour investigation released

The Newman Government has released a report which summarises the key findings to date of its investigation into water quality, fish and human health in and around Gladstone Harbour.

Minister for Environment and Heritage Protection Andrew Powell said the findings in the Gladstone Harbour 2012 Program Report were consistent with extensive information made public throughout the year.

“The findings continue to show no evidence to link water quality with illness in fish or people, and pleasingly, clear evidence that fish health has improved significantly,” Mr Powell said.

“Since concerns were raised in August 2011 by commercial fishers about the health of fish in Gladstone waterways, Gladstone Harbour has undergone a rigorous testing regime.
“The whole-of-government investigation, led by the Department of Environment and Heritage Protection, has involved 12 months of fish health, water quality and sediment sampling and testing as well as on-going investigations into any health concerns reported by fishers in the Gladstone area.

“We are now waiting only for the laboratories to process tissue samples of a wide range of fish, crustaceans and molluscs which are undergoing more detailed studies.
“These results will be published along with reports incorporating all information from the investigation,” Mr Powell said.

And just in case you dont believe a report by the Qld Department of the Environment – (because in the deluded world of TR there is a great big conspiracy between gas companies and government) the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park has posted this article with a link to an image taken from space of “brown muddy water seen built up in Lake Awoonga, flowing down the Boyne River and then being pushed into Gladstone Harbour”

So despite unfounded allegations from some corners, the scientific investigations have found that the issues in Gladstone Harbour related to the floods.

As for the Feds acting to stop LNG export from Gladstone. If you believe that will happen you truly are deluded.

Let me give you a couple of billion reasons why that wont happen. Origin/Conoco, Santos/Total etc and BG are investing billions of dollars in Queensland to develop their gas fields and the LNG plant. If any agency stepped in to stop this investment two of Australia’s major domestic energy companies would face financial distress risking the security of energy supplies to the whole of the east coast of Australia. It would also create massive sovereign risk for Australia which would take decades to recover from. In addition, there would be strategic security issues come into play. China, Japan and Singapore are relying on LNG turning up on time to help keep the lights on in their countries. If the projects were stopped, there would be intense diplomatic and trade pressure on Australia from our nearest and most strategically important neighbours.

No – despite the share price crash. Metgasco is sitting in the box seat to supply gas to domestic customers over the next decade and maybe it will sell some of its gas to export as well.
