The Carolina Reapers didn't do that well. I basically ran out of summer and only had 3-4 very small green ones that were the size of a pea. These didn't go red in colour at all, but went dark and dropped off. I did use them in a curry but the heat was not intense at all.
I had 3 plants at the end of summer and did try to over winter them without success. I live in Tassie and the summer is so short.
I did have a bit better run with the Scorpio variety, they did colour up to a slight red but there wasn't much of a crop on them.
Regarding the daughters boyfriend, he knew he was in for it as the daughter spoilt it and told him of my plan. The wife and I were invited out to join his family for his birthday (pizza night) after a few drinks his father told me that he knew of my plan and how it would be a cruel act to play on the boy.
The wife says that I must keep in good with the family and to get the joke playing out of my mind.
