Certainly had us out of our seats in the grandstand with 200 to go but weight told in the end. Still mighty run giving the field 5kgs. Does give us confidence for the summer carnival, next try will be in 3 weeks in the George Moore - hope there is a higher rated horse or two that will nominate so we get a little weight relief.
Somebody certainly fancied him, we were on at boosted odds earlier in the week at $34 and $26 but not for huge amounts - I know of one owner who had his $100 bet at $26 cut back to $50!!. I think the money for both Rippa and the winner probably was stable inspired but there was certainly some for him - perhaps there are quite a few who were willing to disregard his last prep entirely and work on previous summer form. He ran third in this race first up last year and won second up in his next target at G3 albeit with less weight. Looking forward to the summer, main aim will be the big dollars available at Magic Millions Carnival
