OK, here we go, top five in no particular order

The Boatman's Call - Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds

What can I say? Australian and so distinctive. This is my favourite album from the many that have been released. The first song "into my arms" is brilliant and was played live by Cave at Michael Hutchence's funeral.

    Unknown Pleasures - Joy Division

Joy DIvision only released two albums due to the suicide of lead singer Ian Curtis. Both of them are classics.

Free Will - Gil Scott Heron

Nothing to do with my HC name. The third album from the master. Soul/rap with a large does of politics. Interesting fact - Gil Scott Heron's father was the first black man to play for Celtic football club.

    Nuff Said - Nina Simone!

This album was recorded in 1968, most of the tracks being recorded live at the Westbury Music fair three days after the murder of Dr Martin Luther King. This includes Nina Simone's tribute to Dr Martin Luther King.

Maria Callas, Tullio Serafin, Philharmonia orchestra - Opera Arias

What a voice. Linked you tube song is La mamma morta from Andrea Chenier
