I suppose the problem is that it is an intangible, and so they could not easily 'sell off' a proportion of the leasehold to reduce debt. Banks could get toey in that circumstance, and choose to withdraw the LOC, but then that could see them not recover their outlay. So the bank's dilemma is 'how do I best get my money back, or do I stop throwing good money after bad?' Those two choices would likely lead to different outcomes. Interesting times...
