As good as 3d printing is , I'm not sure it will be applicable on a building site , unless maybe it's a big development .
I reckon prefab in a factory is the future . Services preinstalled , all trades coordinated together . If you've ever built a new house , you will know what I mean about inefficiency between trades . The amount of time lost is huge and that just adds to costs . It's already being done in Europe ( and Australia on a small scale ) .
As to your pet project , there's nothing wrong with going old school . Makes you appreciate the simple things and would be pretty rewarding .
Don't smoke out your neighbours too much . They can get you shut down these days if you're not careful .
As much as it would be nice to be completely off grid , I think we forget how convenient these things are . Especially if your busy .
