    aimone's right. People can afford a bigger mortgage, so house prices rise. Rent assistance helps the landlord, not the tenant. The more the tenant can afford to pay, the higher the rent .... scrap that too, and rents will fall.

    Remove negative gearing, rent assistance, land tax and stamp duty and let property prices find a true level.
