Arrived from NZ 6 years ago and could not believe the handouts we got from the goverment, child support rent assistence etc, worked hard and now, no more handouts. which is fine as we earn a resonable income. lived on a house boat in Hervey Bay while the building boom was going on and saw peaple paying 1-2 mil for appartments on the water, had seen this all before in NZ, next thing the developers need to sell remaining appartments and the 1-2 mill appartments become 450-950 thousand dollar appartments.
Same thing has happened with house prices , oh look the goverment is giving us $21000, don't want to miss out, can't lose.
Have had many houses in my time, still have one in NZ, but was never comfortable with a big noose around my neck as the banks are very good at streching it.
Most of the first home buyers would have been better off renting. at least they would have had some freedom in their future. you at least have some control over your landlord but not much over the banking system.
