    Keating scrapped negative gearing in the 80's on houses....the myth has always been rents soared and he brought it back in to get rents steady again.
    This is complete rubbish....check the rental stats back then and you will see no great change.
    All that happened was that house prices dumped and investors screamed and keating was worried about losing the vote.

    Maybe if house prices got back to reasonable levels a lot more renters could afford to buy/build their own houses
