Immigration is a touchy issue. Frankly I am concerned on other grounds - environmental grounds mostly. One simple issue is water - we have issues in nearly all capital cities over water and yet a booming population is seen as a good thing.
Economists would say that an increasing population creates demand for more consumables, etc. and grow an economy, but it also makes for further inflation, since demand and supply balance is broken. Not to mention demand for housing, which in itself creates upward pressure on housing affordability.
This is a really difficult area - with no clear answer in my book.
