That's where the problem lies.
Since the 1970's owners with inflation induced equity, have been investing in more property.
Borrow the deposit, secure it against your existing home and let the tenant pay of the mortgage for you.
Hey presto, in 20 years you have 2 properties and with inflation, a whole lot of equity to further invest.

Can it be fixed?
Yes ... Just allow only one property per person.
Hahaha ...
Now watch our landlord politicians enact legislation that allows one property per person.
Will never happen.

The only way to fix it is to build more. Property investors only exist while there is demand for rentals.
