I can never see Australians accepting the kind of government controls imposed in Singapore back in the 1970S onwards. For example
Entry to Singapore male haircut to be short, no over ears hair for foreigners. Long hairs served last signs in govt building for locals and strict dress code.
No alcohol permitted for sale or to be drunk by locals. A couple of exclusive foreign nightclubs excepted at high prices for tourists.
Women to work on streets to build roads, clean streets and rivers.
% of individuals wages to go to savings fund for purchase of housing flat when get married .
Demolition of slum areas to make way for more housing. People who resisted moving punished with beatings. Had to move to new flats provided by govt and pay it off over long term loan
Chewing gum banned and if caught several strokes with the cane in public, including foreign and locals. it was law.

As things got better restrictions gradually lifted and such strict controls created the modern Singapore of today with no visible poverty, minimal crime and a compliant , highly skilled and efficient workforce.
