    I had an uncle in Fairfield back in the day.... had a chook farm. you just took me right back there mate.

    yes, all the mod cons that were only just beginning back then are necessities these days. and no effort required other than to save up the cash for a low %age deposit. but the housing bubble, Air BNB and other inflation has taken the opportunity for savings to buy a home today, so the young 'uns do have a difficult job buying a home.

    imo we were probably more fortunate, rents weren't this bad and wages were starting to climb in the 70's. we saved up a deposit for a $20,000 house in 6 months..... but the bank said we didn't have a long savings record so they wouldn't lend us the 12,000 we needed to buy the place.

    a few years later, after having a bit of a trek around the country for a couple of years, we were in our own first home.
