    It seems that the past 10 yrs has bucked the long term trends. I have heard different thoeries to suggest why, but is it possible the banking deregulation about 10 yrs ago has something to do with this.

    Deregulation has driven each of the major crashes in the past century. Regulations were bought into place after the 1929 crash to avoid a re-occurrance....these regulations has progressively been relaxed and here we are again.
