The wise old gent who sold before the 1929 crash realised that the market was relying on larger and larger numbers of new investors for support, much like any pyramid scheme. He reasoned (rightly) that the support base was reaching its limits when the market was relying on the hard earned money of bellhops.

    In contrast, the property market is being supported from the top down, helped by the Federal Government's policy of accepting migrants who bring with them the greatest wealth and earning capacity.

    And the bellhops? Why, they'll just have to face the double whammy of affordable housing becoming a dream and paying higher rents, wont they? After all, they must live somewhere.

    Still, as Malthus realised, there is nothing like poverty to keep people working. All fits in nicely with the pm's vision for a battery human Australia.
