Even covered short selling was banned from 22 Sep 2008 to 19 Nov 2008. And BHP share price still went down to as low as $23.76 from $39.75 during that period.
Forthermore, there are still many shares on ASX that can not be shorted. But their prices continue to go down to very very low levels. Look at MSC for example. :)
By comparing housing properties to shares, I did not mean that trading housing properties is the same as trading shares.
