They weren't "Frugal" they simply got paid more comparatively. And could still get an office job without a degree. They were also not made to compete with cheap Chinese workers by their parents. Nor were they pouring foreign people into these nations to compete for the housing.
Stats pretty much stay the same across the western world. I haven't looked it up in some time, but ABS has all the stats for Australian housing vs income.
