In Australia I don't think life was "easy" 40 years ago, and I don't think it's particularly "tough" now either. I do believe that it has slowly been getting worse, at least over the last couple decades. It may be harder now for millennials to get ahead than previous generations but it is still very achievable. House prices are just a piece of the puzzle. The ones I feel sorry for are the Zoomers and whatever generation follows them.
Decades of no real leadership or foresight have left us a two-bit banana republic. While we can dig up dirt and sell it overseas we will remain a rich country. That's not a long term plan, but it seems to be the only plan.
I'm not a property bear, I'm an Australia bear. There is still no other place I'd chose to live, but unless something changes soon, I don't think I will be able to say the same about Australia in 20 years time. I sincerely hope that I'm proven wrong.
