    "Rightful return"

    You actually have no idea.

Why does an individual have the right to expect a set return form a bank?

A bank deposit is an investment. Nothing more. You are giving your money to a company, who will attempt to keep it safe and give you a return on your money so that they can use it to themselves generate a return. There is risk in bank deposits like all investments. The bank may invest poorly and you lose your money. So the return has to outweigh the risk. If it doesn't then it isn't a very good investment.

There are times when deposits are a good investment and times when they are not. Just like all investments.

So, whilst you sit on your high horse and say investors are greedy, you yourself are being greedy by wanting a low risk investment to pay a high rate of return... Bit hypocritical isn't it?
