It has often been reported that CFD shorting is what drives prices down but I think folks have to understand that this is a derivative provided by different online brokers. Some hedge your shorts using physical shares while others just provide the derivative supply (betting against the shorter). The real shorting requires the insto to borrow physical shares usually $50K min and they pay a fee for the length of holding period. Banning CFD will not remove shorting, just disallowing ignorant mum and dad punters going all in without understanding risk of leveraging!
