Thanks for that very informative series of posts Yellocake.
I was speaking to a farmer at a wedding on the weekend who now farms only 6000 ha west of Walget but used to farm over 30000ha near the SA and NSW borders. I asked him how things were looking out there and he informed me about all the points you have raised and also said that input costs and especially herbicides were going through the roof for farms. Prices are at record levels and going up in a big way soon.
Farmers are hard workers and if they are still in business very astute in maximizing their returns with the ground they have. I can't see how this show will be able to afford to compete with the alternatives at the coal face no matter how much spruiking the suits want to sell to people in the cities.
I can't see too many farmers subsidizing COZ for the benefit of the company. In the end the carbon is returned to the atmosphere when the trees die and decay so the whole carbon trading system is a bit of a con.imo ie: It does not permanently remove carbon from the carbon cycle on the planet.
Your trees look good. Do they need much looking after to get them established?
