I'm not sure a US recession will create a global recession, however I do believe BHP will fair ok if [when] the US hits recession.
However, both a US and global recession would have impacts on BHP as it is not just the value of the dollar that determines profit... it is also supply and demand. And a global recession will have an impact on the demand for various commodities and subsequent impact on income to companies like BHP, RIO, etc.
But as I said before, BHP will still fair ok in the long run.
