Well that depends if you use your common sense about the announcement... if it's unexpected news then yes it would be a bad idea to sell out (assuming it's good)... if it's something the market's been anticipating... well I've seen it so many times before...
Some may consider it a crime to mention possible short term downside or not to hang on white knuckled to a stock if you believe it's got strong fundamentals... but think about past events... the big move you may miss out on in the future may well be the same as the profit you could make by trading in and out of several news events... whichever way floats your boat I say...
Personally I prefer to make lots of small profits... at least then I've got something locked in... and if the 'big one' turns out to be bad news I've got something in my pocket for all my waiting around...
