Mint's offering is different to Square. Firstly, square payments is expenisve and will only ever be for very small businesses. Anyone who is skilled enough to link a gateway to an acquirer to a website (or point of sale) will not use square as they'll end up paying half for their cost of acquiring.
Square is not trying to integrate their gateway into software link Mint did with Tramada. I do believe mint's mPos machine was a fail. But it was all mPos machines including CBA's and also Quests mt430. They filled a gap for only a few seconds really (ie, why i call it the lazerdisc).
But you cant compare mint with square. different business after a different market. There are now +50 players in the CNP acquiring space all trying to offer something slightly different to lock up volumes.
