Hotdog , housing affordability comparisions when looked on a worldwide basis is a load of crock. there are so many variables that go into which can cause huge discrepancies .
china for instance, i believe the average annual take home pay is about USD$4K pa , average home price say USD$40K. seems more expensive to me. also, what are getting in china for your $40K. this average home is perhaps only just bigger than most Australians lounge room. in australia you pay a lot more for a home ( hence higher repayments or rentals ) but you sure as hell are getting a lot more in the home than our asia counterparts. quite simply you pay for what you get and we Australians choose to live in low to medium density with largish homes on big blocks of land and we pay a lot more for it.
anyway housing affordability here has been on the improve with house price declines and will only get better with reduced interest rates.
