why can't everyone be a contractor instead of an 'employee'. Surely it would be much more efficient to have everyone looking after their own interests, having some degree of independence and self-resposibility. There are so many inefficiencies built into traditional employment- its staggering how much resposibility is heaped on the 'employer' .
After working in the pulic sector, I now contract, and its the best for both me and the people I contract to. I look after my own tax, insurance, super etc. but I get a much higher remuneration than I would as an employee. I'm my own boss.
The best thing I did was to get out of public sector, where employment conditions are structured in such a way that it can have the effect of infantalising workers, plus it becomes a haven for those who don't really want to be there but just go throught the motions -when they're not throwing sickies.
