I knew a family (two children), immigrants who rented a room to live in. After 6 years the owner said that he was going to sell and did they want to buy, they said yes and bought the house, they then continued to live in the one room and rented the rest of the house until the mortgage was manageable
It's all about how motivated you are and if you are willing to forgo current pleasure for future gain and security
You cannot live a normal life and save enough for a deposit, you have to live with parents/share/caravan or similar
