you are comparing a country with grown democratic structures with one that has corrupt authoritarian practices.
We have the same problems as you in Germany with long democratic proceeds on economical decisions, buerocratic regulations, ignorant fanatic greens etc. This is indeed a disadvantage over countries like Malaysia, also China. These countries can react much quicker to economic changes. But this is only possible by sacrificing individual freedoms.
Neither in Australia nor in Germany people would tolerate if people were arrested for wearing yellow shirts. Thank God!
Malaysia has reached a turning point. The "Arab Spring" is coming to the East withe the Berish 2.0 movement wanting reforms and transparency. Same thing will happen in China sooner or later (even if you can't compare the political systems). You can't stop these developments because they go along with economical progress.
The greens have an ambivalent approach towards the REE sector. They will have to make up their minds about green technologies with the consequence of supporting the REE industry. People like Robin Chapple at least know what they talking about (compared to many Greens in Germany). And finally - apart from the global warming issue that I consider another hoax - greens have raised important issues with significant achievements. Germany has just exited the nuclear power path which wouldn't have happened without the green movement. This might not be groundbreaking for the rest of the world but it will chance the awareness and technological innovations towards better technologies upsetting old structures and opening new chances for new industries.
