Equally so I would think that the Malaysian Government has covered its bases on this one. If not then foreign direct investment from non-Chinese sources will suffer immensely as sovereign risk is perceived to be increased for Western companies.
What you highlight does, however, serve to strengthen the argument for an alternative source of REEs outside of CN.
Remembering also that REEs are integral in the development and production of the many forms of modern weaponry...
