What your saying is no one you know has ever really lived there and maybe they didn’t have good employment or it didn’t suit their lifestyle to live there due to family or other commitments elsewhere.
Hardly a reason to dis a place because you hate real estate as an asset.
As far as mining being a symptom of Australia’s “Uneconomic Complexity” then why don’t you start your own road to self-diversification by getting rid of your phone, car , and everything else that comes directly from this symptom.
