Really can't see driver less cars making a material change to the numbers of cars owned. Cars are a personal possession and for many a status symbol. Given how little respect many people show for others cars in the public eg opening doors into them in a parking lot would you really want to share a car with god knows what filth lying around in the interior.

All it will do is automate taxis/ride share services and a few inner city go get type operations. People who can afford to and require regular, immediate and reliable access to a car will still choose to own their own. Most women use their car as an extension of their wardrobe how exactly do you plan that is going to work in a driver less car era.

All these studies on the impacts of driver less cars assume human habits are going to significantly change and I just can't see it happening. All this without even taking into consideration the driving enthusiast who is not even the least bit interested in having a robot control a car as well. What about parents with porta cots, prams, baby bags, baby seats etc all being carried around. Do you think a driverless car is going to magically reduce the need to have these things on hand.

Having a vehicle available constantly in your size, specs and personal requirements just isn't feasible. Put the cool aid down and have a glance at reality.
