    Dangerous idea IMO.
    Green lights (including walk lights) don't mean that it is safe to proceed; they mean that it is your allocated phase and you are authorised to proceed.
    It is up to you (driver, cyclist or pedestrian) to then assess the situation and determine whether it is safe to proceed.
    To put green walk lights in the pavement is effectively saying to pedestrians that they do not need to look up at the road and the vehicles on it.
    It undermines the key safety principle, and makes them much more vulnerable to vehicles running the red light.
    Very poor road safety idea IMO.

    and for those of you wanting some sort of "natural selection", I think that it unfortunately makes this more likely.
