Most of that story is hysterical and counterfactual drivel.
Take maize (corn) for example. In the USA most of the corn is used for pig food. How much tortillas and corn chips do Americans eat ? More than we do, but it is not their daily staple as it is in some parts of Africa or South America.
The price of industrial corn is determined by the supply and demand for pig food and biofuels. It is much lower than the price of corn foods. What do you think is the cost to the corn-chip manufacturer of the corn used to make them, compared to what the corn chips sell for.
