PAA has enough cash to see through the canine phase II trials and the beginning of the human phase II trials. They said that some months ago.
IF the MPL clinical trials confirm what the lab experiments suggest, that MPL is, an effective anti cancer drug that stabilises, shrinks and makes treatable (alone and in combination with other treatments) a broad spectrum of commmon LATE STAGE "REFRACTORY" (ie resistent) TUMOURS (ie currrently TERMINAL cancers beyond "standard of care" treatment) in dogs, and then HUMANS, then this stock could go ballistic.
But there are other possible outcomes that could come from the clinical trials:
1. MPL is useful but not as useful against late stage "refractory" tumours as the lab experiments suggested. So it will have value as yet another useful addition to the arsenal of fighting cancers. Usefule and profitable but nothing extraordinary.
2. It is only useful in dogs, therefore while still a nice earner, it will be only a fraction as profitable as a human anti cancer drug would be. Still pretty good.
3. It is a flop in the clinic against both dog and human cancers. Lots of swearing and the reason why you should always be cautious in how much you bet on a spec..Biotech specs in particular are notoriously unpredictable.
Finallly, IF MPL does live up to the high hopes that have been raised by the lab experiments and phase one trials, then remember that MPL is just the beginning, because and it is the first of a whole new class of drugs that modulate the mTor system in cells in a way different from current mTor drugsthere's a whole lot unexplored uses yet to be examined for this new class of drugs, and not only cancer. It's like exploring a newly discovered country people didn't know even existed, like Columbus reaching the Americas for the first time. Who knows what's out there? Google mTor and look up the wikipedia article. mTor drugs are already a huge and varied business.
