Not sure how much of that article is just the reporters view. I liked this part though:

"The sale will lower Barrick's operating expenses and rid it of non-core, high cost mines with short remaining lives."

But NST say Plutonic has 5-7 yr mine life. Funny!

For my own research I tend to go to source documents mainhold not press reports. I read that the asset sales were to improve cash flow a couple of times from memory. Looking back on source is the Q3 quarterly:
