    To spare him a lifetime of pain? I’d be absolutely devastated, but I’d make that decision In a heartbeat - because (engage your brain now, this is a difficult concept) at the time of making the decision, the boy in the picture would not exist yet - just a fetus that might go on to become a boy like that. Capable of the occasional joyful moment, yes - but also doomed to slowly drown to death in his own bodily fluids as his biology betrays him, while I watch on helplessly, impoverishing the entire family to buy the medicine that can slow the disease down and give him some semblance of a normal life because the country I called home decided to discard him like a rotten apple.

    Of course, once he was actually born I’d give him the love and care that any child deserves. Wouldn’t you?
