Peace is generally good for capitalism. Peace in the middle east means oil flows freely and cheaply to oil the machinery of capitalism. The defence industry is an obvious benefactor of war but I would say an isolated one. And keep in mind all the materials and labor that has gone into Iraq/Afghanistan, could have been used elsewhere much more productively. Cheap oil would also mean less money to the middle eastern rivals of the US. What I'm getting at is I'm not a big fan of the war mongering neo-con theories and believe that Bush and friends would like to lessen their reliance on oil and see stability across the globe. Should be obvious that the US does quite well from a thriving global economy.
