Thanks for your response pingu219. So I can hyperthetically buy 10000 shares in company xyz just before the close of trading on the day before the ex-dividend date & then sell those shares at the open *on* the ex-dividend date & i'll still get payed the dividend?
I'm not interested in holding for 45 days as the stock in the current volatile climate may well drop significantly in that time. Sorry to trouble you further with another question.
