It has the potential to be a good buy, or it has the potential to now be less competitive in the Australian domestic market.
Halving production at Pt Kembla will mean loss of some economies of scale as many fixed costs remain the same, so cost per tonne to produce steel will increase.
This may be just stage one of shutting down steel making in Pt Kembla.
