To clarify, I was a real estate investor the last 30 years.. Nothing phenomenal but a few bucks were made in capital gains and value adding by plying some very enjoyable building skills. I moved into the stock market in 2015, the most disastrous thing I ever did. It's really hard to make a buck in real estate, in the sharemarket you are a minnow amongst sharks, and a tertiary qualified day job only just pays the bills.
